NEW FACES AND A MOSAIC OF CULTURES

Coming from 28 different countries and speaking a wide range of languages, these students contribute fully to the international outlook of our university. This semester, ɫ�� is welcoming over 130 international exchange students.

Most of them come from European countries through the Erasmus+ program (70%).
Others join us from the United States through the Mission Interuniversitaire de Coordination des Échanges Franco-Américains (MICEFA), as well as from Latin America and Asia through international cooperation agreements between ɫ�� and their home institutions.

A WELCOME PROGRAM TO START THE SEMESTER ON THE RIGHT FOOT

Beginning on January 19, 2026, students took part in a welcome program designed to facilitate their arrival and integration at ɫ��. The aim was to combine the delivery of essential information with opportunities for social interaction, through:

An introduction to ɫ�� and its student services by the Office of International Affairs
A French-level test for those wishing to attend French as a Foreign Language classes
A “Go International!” workshop focused on intercultural learning
An informal gathering in Paris to encourage connections and exchanges

Throughout their stay, our international exchange students will benefit from the guidance of international relations officers and academic coordinators in each faculty, school and institute.

We wish them an excellent semester at ɫ�� and a wonderful intercultural experience in France.

French-Pakistani cooperation: ɫ�� and IBA Karachi join forces in education and research

Representatives from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi —one of Pakistan’s five most prestigious higher education institutions—were warmly welcomed by President Karine Bergès during a signing ceremony organized by Laurent Thévenet, Vice President for International Affairs, and Carole Torriero, Head of International Affairs.

The Pakistani delegation, received on the central campus in the early afternoon, included Dr. Syed Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director of the Institute; Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khoja, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science; and Dr. Rizwan Ahmed Khan and Dr. Shadid Hussain, Professor and Associate Professor of Computer Science, respectively.

The meeting also included Professor Amine Nait-Ali from the Faculty of Science and Technology and Eric Hertzler, faculty member and Director of International Relations at IAE Paris-Est. Participants explored initial opportunities for implementing this agreement, including student mobility at the Master’s level and research collaborations in computer science, biometrics, and management—fields where both institutions offer particularly promising potential for synergy.

The signing of a framework agreement marks a key milestone in ɫ��’s internationalization strategy. It provides a structured approach to concrete initiatives in education and research, benefiting its communities.

Through this formalized partnership, ɫ�� and IBA Karachi commit to pooling their expertise and creating new opportunities for professional and personal development for students and faculty, while strengthening their international scientific impact.

This achievement follows a visit to IBA Karachi by the Vice President for International Affairs in October 2025, facilitated by the French Embassy in Pakistan.

The International Welcome Days, ɫ��'s welcome program for international students, took place from September 4 to 26, 2025.

Highlights included:

A Welcome Desk during the first three weeks of the academic year, which provided international students with access to student advisors, university services, and representatives from the French National Health Insurance (CPAM) and the Val-de-Marne housing and family benefits office (Caf), making it easier to complete all administrative procedures related to settling in France
An official welcome session led by the Office of International Affairs, which offered students a comprehensive introduction to the university
A campus tour, designed as a scavenger hunt, that invited students to explore the university's key services
An outdoor multisport afternoon, organized by the SUAPS (ɫ�� Physical and Sports Activities Service), held in the park by Créteil's Lake
An intercultural awareness workshop which encouraged dialogue on diversity and inclusion, bringing international and local students together through collaborative exchanges
Students Meet-Ups and Paris outings, including a Seine river cruise and a student party

To make the arrival of its new international students easier, ɫ�� is organizing its International Welcome Days from September 4 to 26, 2025.

Take advantage of one-on-one support at the Welcome Desk in Créteil and enjoy a wide range of friendly activities to discover the university, explore its services, and meet other students.

The Welcome Desk is a multi-service reception point set up to ease your arrival. Student advisors are available from Monday to Friday to help you with administrative formalities and settling in France, and to answer all your practical questions.

3. Find housing before your arrival

To find accommodation in the Paris region, it's best to start looking as early as possible. We strongly advise you to start your search well ahead of your arrival in France.

To help its students and future students find an accommodation, ɫ�� has set up a dedicated housing platform, in partnership with Studapart. It makes it possible to book an accommodation remotely before arriving in France. This multilingual website (French, English, Chinese, Spanish) lists studio apartments, shared apartments, student residences, rooms in private homes, etc. close to campus.

All you need to create your account is an email address and proof of your admission to ɫ��. You’ll then be able to get support and complete all the necessary steps online.

4. Save the date: International Welcome Days

Mark your calendar for our International Welcome Days, from September 4 to 26, 2025. This event is designed to make your arrival easy. A Welcome Desk will be available to help you through administrative and settling in formalities. ɫ�� takes part in the 2024 Aurora biannual in Naples

A symbolic spring biannual

Between 27th and 30th of May, the Aurora community gathered in the historic city of Naples for the alliance's spring biannual, organised by the ɫ�� Federico II of Naples (UNINA).
The year 2024 also marks the 800th anniversary of UNINA. This anniversary is a reminder of the importance and transformative potential of universities. By situating Aurora's contemporary goals within this historical framework, the biannualdid not only celebrated the past. It also inspired the Aurora community to continue shaping a better society through collaboration in education and research.

Aurora reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, with the signing of the Common Footprint Reduction Plan by the Rectors of its member universities. With this signature, ɫ�� reaffirmed its commitment to make our campuses more sustainable.

Another highlight of the event was the handover of the Aurora presidency from the Rector of the ɫ�� of Iceland, Jón Atli Benediktsson, to the Rector of Palacký ɫ�� Olomouc, Martin Procházka. Aurora's new president expressed his desire to continue to work closely with students :

It will be my goal to continue working on creating a student-centred and inclusive environment within Aurora, where students are truly heard.

Progress of working groups, conferences and participative workshops

The event covered a series of key thought-provoking topics:

joint education programs
stakeholder engagement
student issues
citizen science and participatory democracy, with a presentation by Emilie Frenkiel
vulnerability, with a day of workshops co-organised by ɫ��, as co-lead of the task-team 2.3 "Establishing the Hub for Health & Well-Being"
a day's work on the joint Master's degree in Global Citizenship and the Digital Society (EURIDICE).

Work packages and task teams were also able to meet during collaborative sessions. The progress made at this meetings underlines the impact that such an alliance can have on international collaboration in higher education to achieve common goals.

Some key figures from the first phase of the programs:

more than 1,100 staff exchanges
more than 3,880 student exchanges, including 170 students in innovation and social entrepreneurship programs and 600 students in research and innovation programs
creation of 20 joint courses
50 courses made available in the joint Aurora catalogue

ɫ�� hosts its first Aurora summer school

Hosted by AEI International School ɫ��, this two-week intensive program, provides a unique opportunity to earn 6 ECTS credits while immersing yourself in the dynamic realms of Societal Innovation and Futures Studies. This summer school is meticulously tailored for bachelor students, aspiring to make a tangible impact on the world.

Week one, driven by Professor Felipe Koch, promises an exploration of the immersive world of Futures Literacy. Students will be fully engaged in a Futures Literacy Lab, in order to master facilitation techniques, and deep dive into Social Foresight and the Foundations of Futures Studies - equipping you with tools to not only envision but also lead transformative change.

The second week unfolds a rich variety of expertise, featuring renowned lecturers such as Philippe Frouté on Data Analysis and Forecasting, Fabio Scarano on Regenerative Futures, and Rocco Scolozzi on System Thinking. Each module is meticulously designed to challenge your perspectives, empowering students to forecast and shape the future landscape of Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Furthermore, this summer school seamlessly aligns with the Aurora competence framework and integrates Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing students with a powerful lense to address global challenges encompassing poverty, hunger, health, education, and beyond. It aims to transcend the boundaries of conventional learning; it’s about acquiring the skills to initiate tangible, real-world change.

Aurora call for resarch collaboration: application opened until April 30

Scientific collabration at the Aurora level

Following the launch of Aurora 2030, the second phase of the European ɫ�� Alliance project, Aurora is consolidating scientific and academic relationships between its member institutions, establishing and promoting an Aurora community of research and innovation.

ɫ�� plays a leading role, coordinating several working groups, notably TT5.2 "Academic Collaboration and Community Building", which is committed to developing a genuine community of Aurora researchers by fostering shared values and common practices in an environment conducive to excellence.

Building on the advances made during the first phase of Aurora and as part of Work Package 5, the alliance offers researchers various types of support:

a call for incentive research projects
thematic summer schools
mobility opportunities

"In the first phase, the Aurora universities succeeded in drawing up an inventory of research infrastructures that they are willing to share for joint research. With today's call for collaboration, we want to take a major step forward in bringing together researchers from the various universities belonging to the Aurora alliance, and thus create a real research community within Aurora. That's why we want three Aurora partners to be involved in every incentive research project and summer school. In addition, mobility opportunities require that both the host laboratory and the trainee come from Aurora universities."

This call is open to applications from all scientific fields (science and engineering, health, human and social sciences, etc.). Projects can be disciplinary or multidisciplinary in nature.

Three ɫ�� Research Projects Win the 2023 Prix de l’Université

In the PhD category, Antonia Jabbour tied for second place for her thesis in mathematics entitled “Optimal Systolic Inequalities on Surfaces”, which was prepared at ɫ�� under the supervision of Stéphane Sabourau and Mustapha Jazar.

Tying for third was Simon Perrin for his thesis in cellular and molecular biology entitled “Role of the Periosteum in Bone Regeneration and Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia”, which was prepared at Université Paris Cité and Université Paris-Est Créteil (ɫ��) under the supervision of Céline Colnot.

In the master’s thesis category, fourth place was awarded to Pirenam Augustin Atakpa for his thesis in chemistry prepared at ɫ�� entitled “Synthesis of Organocatalysts for Flow Chemistry in a Capillary”.

Looking Back at the Biannual Meeting of the Aurora European Alliance

The 2023 fall biannual meeting was held on October 17 and 18 at the Palacký ɫ�� Olomouc in the Czech Republic. The event saw students, lecturers, professors, and other academic and administrative staff from the universities in the alliance working together to identify and tackle the upcoming major challenges of European higher education.
Participants presented and discussed Aurora Alliance’s results over the first three years of its operations, as well as outlined the Aurora 2030 program.

Among the highlights of this edition were :

The official signing of the new Multilateral Aurora Mobility Agreement by the university presidents for the new 2030 Aurora program
The official signing of the Research Infrastructure Memorandum of Understanding by the university presidents to share research infrastructure

Participants also attended special sessions for the many Task Teams of the Aurora Alliance, as well as thematic workshops and plenary sessions on the following areas:

The impact and role of European universities on the future of higher education in Europe
Sustainable development
The major challenges of education, research innovation, and social responsibility
Student-centered European ɫ�� alliances

Aurora: The European ɫ�� Alliance

Aurora is an alliance that was created in 2020 and is funded by the European Commission as part of the European Universities initiative. Following its integration in May 2022, ɫ�� became a permanent member of the alliance in July 2023. Aurora is a group of 10 universities and 7 associate partners from the four corners of Europe. The members strive to fulfill a shared vision of five priority areas, all of which are aligned with ɫ��’s strategic goals, projects, and the ERASME program:

Environment and Climate Change;
Digital Society and Global Citizenship;
Health and Well-Being;
Culture: Diversity and Identity;
Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
